How great thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze,
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee,
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee,
How great thou art! How great thou art!

What I am thankful for this week:

1. Dashboard Confessional. My favorite band in high school whom I forgot about for a few years.
2. 44 days until my family gets here!
3. Warm socks and shoes.
4.  My first ever trick or treaters on Monday!

Songs like "Pretty Good at Drinking Beer" by Billy Currington made me stop listening to country, but The Band Perry brought me back. Enjoy!

This time, we are arriving early. With a blanket. And snacks.

Music Week: Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros

Friday, May 20, 2011

When I first heard this song, I thought "they made this about us!" Whoever it's about, it's a beautiful love song. We played it at our wedding. I thought it was a good song to end my music week with. (The video is just a bunch of hippies running around so you can switch to another tab, but keep the volume up :)

Music Week: Lady Antebellum

I couldn't do a week of my favorite music without a little country. What can I say? It's in my roots. Here is Lady Antebellum's American Honey.

Music Week: Adele

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Adele has been on the radio a lot lately, but this is the first song I heard from her a couple years ago. This was originally a Bob Dylan song and I've loved it ever since I heard Garth Brooks sing it when I was growing up. But perhaps Adele has mastered this classic. I especially like this live version with her and the famous British pianist, Jools Holland.

This song gives me the chills.

Simon & Garfunkel: Sound of Silence

Music Week: Feist

I haven't done much with music here, so I think it's about time. Despite my lack of musical ability, music means a great deal to me. I feel like I have a wide range of musical taste and I plan to demonstrate that this week with a daily post of a favorite song.

This one really defines our life right now. Loving where we are, but dreaming of a real house full of babies :).

Helping the kids out of their coats
But wait the babies haven't been born oh
Unpacking the bags and setting up
And planting lilacs and buttercups oh

But in the meantime we've got it hard
Second floor living without a yard
It may be years until the day
My dreams will match up with my pay

Old dirt road,
(mushaboom, mushaboom)
knee deep snow
(mushaboom, mushaboom)
Watching the fire as we grow
(mushaboom, mushaboom)
o-o-o-o-old

I got a man to stick it out
And make a home from a rented house oh
And we'll collect the moments one by one
I guess that's how the future's done oh

How many acres, how much light
Tucked in the woods and out of sight
Talk to the neighbours and tip my cap
On a little road barely on the map

Old dirt road,
mushaboom, mushaboom)
knee deep snow
mushaboom, mushaboom)
Watching the fire as we grow,
mushaboom, mushaboom)
o-o-o-o-old
(mushaboom, mushaboom)
Old dirt road rambling rose
(mushaboom, mushaboom)
Watching the fire as we grow
(mushaboom, mushaboom)
Well I'm sold

Just found a new band based out of Provo that I love...The Fictionist...

No big deal that they are one of 16 bands in the running to be on the cover of

Check them out here...and vote! :)

The winner will also play Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, play at the (downright huge) Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee, and receive a recording contract with Atlantic Records.

Favorite of the Week

Thursday, October 1, 2009

My new favorite music of the week is Gregorian Chant. Yes, I know I am a nerd...But it really is beautiful. My roommate Kennedy likes it, at least compared to my usual Ben Folds Five. It is perfect background music for studying, especially scripture study. There is such a spiritual and other-worldly quality to it. Oh just give it a chance! Try a new station on Pandora!
